Release: Theresa Sherry Named Cal's Head Coach

Theresa Sherry, a former Princeton All-American who served as an assistant coach at California in 2007, was hired as Cal's head coach in the summer of 2007. She was named the 2008 MPSF Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Bears to a 9-9 overall record, 4-1 conference mark and six conference players of the week last season. Cal produced losing seasons in the two years prior to Sherry taking the head coaching job.

In addition to being named All-American in 2002, 2003 and 2004, Sherry was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award as the nation's top women's lacrosse player as a senior in 2004. She helped the Tigers to NCAA Championships in both 2002 and 2003 as well as the NCAA semifinals in 2001 and the final in 2004. The Tigers also captured Ivy League Championships in each of her four seasons at the school. A four-time All-Ivy League selection, she was the conference's Player of the Year in 2004.

Sherry was a four-year letterwinner for the Princeton women's soccer team, serving as a team captain and helping the program to three Ivy League Championships.

For her career, Sherry scored 197 points (fifth all-time at Princeton), including 161 goals (fourth all-time).

The Maryland product also has international playing experience as she competed with the United States Developmental Team in 2004 and 2005 and helped the U.S. Under-19 Team to the World Championship in 1999, earning player of the game honors in the championship game.

Sherry became familiar with the Bay Area through frequent visits with her family, as her parents grew up in Marin County.
